About the Contributors

Diana Bedoya is an instructor in the Department of Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University. Her research interests include obesity, behaviour change, and weight management.  She focuses on having students integrate class content with their own lives, teaching them to reflect on their own health habits.

Leah Bendell is a Professor in Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Science at Simon Fraser University. Her research interests focuses on ecotoxicology including, for example, tar sands restoration. Dara Culhane is a professor of Anthropology at Simon Fraser University. Her teaching philosophy of recognizing students as unique individuals guides her to encourage critical and reflexive members in the classroom and in the world. Jessica Fickell is a fourth year Geography student at SFU.  Jessica loves learning about the choices people make and the different paths they’ve taken to get where they are.

Gabriela Matey is a recent SFU graduate with a Bachelor degree in Sociology and International Studies. She is very interested in improving the quality of student’s learning experiences.

Vivian Neal has worked as an educational developer in the UK and at several Canadian universities. She is passionate about integrating education for sustainability into her teaching and also supports other faculty and university instructors to understand an integrate sustainability into the curriculum. The Speakers are a group of five undergraduate education students who acted as group mentors in Charles Bingham’s course, Sociology of Education, at Simon Fraser University. They were deeply inspired by the experience and were the primary authors of the case, “Finding a Voice”. They are (in no particular order): Jennifer Lee-Smith, Carlo DeFazio, Arcie Jr. Lim, Vicky Liu and Chantal Broughton.

Herbert Tsang is an adjunct professor and researcher at Simon Fraser University. He has taught computing for more than 10 years and is keenly interested in providing engaging learning activities for undergraduate students.
